Meet the Directors

Dr. Jose Pablo Quesada

A member of Movement City Church, Dr. José Pablo Quesada is the co-owner of the Zion Piano Studio, Adjunct Faculty and Director of Operations of PianoTexas International Festival & Academy at Texas Christian University, and Adjunct Faculty at the National University of Costa Rica.

Dr. Quesada joined the Faculty of the National University of Costa Rica in 2008, first as a piano accompanist, and later as a piano instructor and administrator of the Program Pianismo y Proyección Mundial de Costa Rica. Then he joined the Faculty of the TCU School of Music in 2015 as an instructor in musicology, ear training, and Director of Operations of PianoTexas. In the same year, he co-founded the Zion Piano Studio with his wife Dr. Won Yong Lee.

During his career as a pianist, he performed as a soloist with orchestras in Latin America: Millennium Orchestra (Guatemala), Venezuela National Philharmonic, El Salvador National Symphony Orchestra, Funza Wind Symphony (Colombia), National University Orchestra (Costa Rica), Cartago Symphony Orchestra (Costa Rica), Heredia Symphony Orchestra (Costa Rica), Teresa Carreño Youth Orchestra (Venezuela), and De Castella Symphony Orchestra (Costa Rica). These performances include a professional recording as a soloist with the Heredia Symphony Orchestra.

He performed solo recitals, chamber music concerts, lectures, and taught master classes in the USA, Italy, France, Hungary, Lithuania, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and the Dominican Republic; including among them his performance at Carnegie Hall in New York in 2010.

He received several awards such as: First Prize in the American Protege International Strings and Piano Competition,  First Prize in the Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition, Performer in PianoTexas International Academy and Festival, Finalist in the PKL Honors Audition Competition, Third Prize in the Primer Concurso Iberoamericano para Jovenes Pianistas (Dominican Republic), Performer in the Schlern International Music Festival (Italy), the F. Howard and Mary D. Walsh Graduate Piano Scholarship (Texas), and the Judith Solomon Award in Vocal Accompanying (Texas).

José Pablo Quesada earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at the National University of Costa Rica; his Master of Music and Doctorate of Musical Arts Degrees at Texas Christian University. His main teachers were: Dr. Tamas Ungar, Dr. Gerardo Meza, Dr. Alexandr Sklioutovsky, Dr. Luis Monge, and Ludmila Melzer.

Dr. Won Yong Lee

Korean-born American pianist and pedagogue, Dr. Won Yong Lee, is an Independent Piano Teacher at Zion Piano Studio and Instructor in Musicology and Class Piano at Texas Christian University. Dr. Lee is also a member of Movement City Church in Fort Worth. After concluding her education at the top music conservatory of the United States, Eastman School of Music, Dr. Lee developed a strong career as a performer, piano teacher, and adjudicator of piano competitions for over twenty years in the United States and abroad. Dr. Lee taught in world class music institutions such as: Eastman School of Music (New York), Eastman Community Music School (New York), Southwestern Assemblies of God University (Texas), and the National University of Costa Rica.

Dr. Lee also received multiple invitations to perform and teach master classes in different music festivals such as: Music Academy of Moulin D’Ande (France), New England Music Camp (Maine), Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp (Michigan), and Bogota Festival Internacional de Piano (Colombia). Adjudications on international piano competitions include: New York State MTNA Competition, Kentucky State MTNA Piano Festival Competition, Greater Rochester Music Teacher Association in New York and the Solo Contest of the Fort Worth Music Teachers Association. As a pianist, Dr. Lee has been performing actively as a solo and chamber musician throughout the Unites States, Europe, South and Central America.

Dr. Lee has been awarded in multiple international piano competitions and with scholarships such as: Avis and Davis Vaughn Award, Edith Babcok Award, Lay and Mattie Powell Piano Scholarship, Spitler Piano Scholarship, Bradshaw and Buono International Piano Competition and the Armenian Cultural Association Competition which resulted in a concert debut with Tres de Febrero Symphonic Orchestra.

Dr. Lee began her music studies at the age of 13, in the Juan José Castro Conservatory (Argentina) under the tutelage of pianists Inés Gomez Carrillo. After earning her undergraduate degree in Argentina, Dr. Lee moved to Rochester (New York) to finish her Masters in Music and her Doctorate in Musical Arts at Eastman School of Music under professors: Thomas Schumacher, Anne Koscielny and Natalya Antonova. Later on, Dr. Lee moved to the piano capital of United States (Fort Worth, Texas) to pursue an Artist Diploma at the Texas Christian University, where she is currently an adjunct faculty.
